Top 3 Apps That You Need For Your Mac

Spread the love

Macbooks come with a great array of complementary apps. Their office suite comes standard, and contrary to many Microsoft loyalists, the Apple alternatives are really good. Other apps, like GarageBand and iMovie, are truly excellent, considering the amount of money you would have to spend on alternatives. Musicians can testify to how easy GarageBand makes it to create a song with minimal equipment, and a huge amount of YouTube videos have been edited with iMovie.

But that does not mean you should eschew the Mac app store. There are some important Mac apps that you might not even have realized you needed all along.

Download the following 3 apps to make your Mac experience more complete.

Wunderlist

The excellently named Wunderlist has turned out to be a lifesaver for me. It works across all of your devices to organize your life. Set reminders, schedule notifications, and even organize your work team from this simple app. If you’re as absent-minded as I am, you’ll appreciate how much time this app saves you from trying to get your thoughts in order.

You can get the team-based features by subscribing to Wunderlist’s highest tier, which they offer free for a year. Otherwise, the app is entirely free.

ExpressVPN

Considered by many to be the best VPN for Mac, ExpressVPN is the perfect option for those of us who understand the importance of protecting our data online. For the most part, Macs do not need additional security software. However, a VPN is not there to protect you from viruses or malware, but to make your data difficult to track and decrypt.

I always have my VPN turned on, regardless of what I’m using the web for, because I know how dangerous it is simply to be online. Identity theft is increasingly common because it is getting easier by the day.

There are of course alternatives to ExpressVPN that work very well. Whichever you choose, you can expect to pay around $10 per month, or around $8 per month if you pay for a year upfront.

Duet

One screen is never quite enough. There is just too much going on in my life at any one moment to contain in a single screen. I’m constantly referring to and from other tabs, windows, applications, and my Macbook screen ends up feeling a bit cramped.

But not everyone has an extra screen lying around. Duet allows you to use your iPad as a second screen. You’ll need to tether your iPad to your Mac with one of Apple’s lightning port cables, and Duet does the rest of the work for you. It seamlessly turns your iPad into an easily accessible second screen, giving you extra space without taking up much more space in your actual life.

With the upcoming OS X update, Apple plans on revealing a new app store, designed to integrate better into the Mac experience. Regardless, these apps will still be waiting for you to download. Macbooks are pretty great, but just a few extra apps can make your experience even more complete.
