Spread the love

Kids are turning towards indoor entertainment rather than playing outside. The tech gadgets, video games lure them in leaving parents with the struggle to motivate their children to take part in sports.

Sports are crucial for the overall development of children. They not only make them physically fit but in those years of growth, sports improve their brain power and metabolism. By playing in teams, they learn team spirit, leadership, management, decision-making and many such things which will later help them in excel at every point of their lives.

But currently, children are so thrilled with video games, PlayStation, Xbox and other gadgets that they rarely play outside. It’s not easy to encourage your kids to follow sports. So therefore, you must put some extra efforts to motivate your child to follow sports. To make it a little easy for you, I have this helpful guide on how to motivate kids to love sports.

Help Them Choose A Sport

The first thing you should do to motivate your kids to follow is to help them to choose a perfect sport. If your child has some interest in Football then do not push them into Athletics. Try to know what sport they love the most and motivate them to go out and play those. Create a healthy environment around them.

There are some other factors you should keep in mind while choosing a sport for your kid like select the sport according to his/her age, and the strength of the kid also plays an important role to choose a sport for them.

Talk With Your Kid’s Doctor

Another best way to motivate your kids to follow sports is by taking them to the doctor and make them talk to the doctor. Let the doctor explain and help your child to understand the importance of playing sports as kids tend to follow what their doctor says. The doctor should also suggest some sports activities to the child.

Support Your Child

Next big thing is support. You should always support your child rather than pointing out their mistakes in the sport. They don’t have to excel, they just need to play with spirit. That’s what matters.

Never complain if they lose the game or didn’t score good, instead, appreciate the efforts your child put in playing the sport. This will motivate your child to play the game. But if you only point out the mistakes of the kid then they will lose interest in that game.

Play With Your Child

What can be more fun than playing with your kids? Try to get involved in your kid’s sport as much as you can. This will create interest in your child and will also make the sport a fun activity which they would surely love. Another significance of playing sports with your kid is that this way you can easily help the child to learn a sport.

Create Environment

Being comfortable while playing sport is also necessary. You should create an environment fit for playing the sport. Make sure that all the necessary sports equipment is available and the most important, the clothes of the kid are comfortable otherwise they will not be able to concentrate on the game. You might want to spend some money on sports uniform, shoes, and other equipment.

Watch Others

Take your child to watch others playing sports. You can take them to a nearby stadium, sports clubs, etc and this will surely create interest in the child to play sports more.

Take A Break

Don’t forget to take breaks while playing. You should always give breaks to your kid like take a break for 1 or 2 days. Or schedule playing 3-4 times a week. Otherwise, it would feel like more like a burden on your child to play. Breaks will help them to relax the mind and body and they would be able to play the game with more energy and enthusiasm.

Limit TV Watching

Cut the timing short for watching television and video games. Do not allow your kids to watch television for more than 1-2 hours as suggested by the experts. Make your child involved in more physical exercises than these watching TV, playing the video games, computer, etc. Limit such passive activities to 2 hours per day.

Don’t Over Do It

Never force your child to play too many sports at any given time. Some people think that making their child more involved in more sports will make them good at it, but the results are in fact the opposite. If you force your child to play many different sports then they will not be able to build up interest in something specific and you won’t see much development in them – you know what they say: “Jack of all Trades and Master of None”.

Cut Comparisons

Comparisons always discourage children. So, avoid comparing your child’s game with other kids. Never say such things like your friend plays better than you, you should have played like other teams’ players and so on. This will not make your child play better instead it would discourage the kid completely and ruin their confidence.
